Action on Hearing Loss Hustings

Last night the plucky DeafLondon team packed their notebooks and headed to the AoHL Deafness and Hearing Loss Hustings. We expected a night of heated debate and we were far from disappointed.

Representatives from Labour (Kate Green), Conservatives (Mark Harper) and Liberal Democrats (Lord Mike German) were present to debate hot topics such as Access to Work, the NHS, Interpreters, Subtitling and a BSL Act.

DeafLondon CEO, Tom Lichy, had the opportunity to talk privately with both Kate Green and Mark Harper about their own views on a BSL Act – needless to say we didn’t get an overwhelming ‘Yes, we will bring in a BSL Act’ but there are positive signs there.

DeafLondon are hosting their own series of events in the run up to the general election, including our own debate – hosted and contested in BSL. Full details and ticket reservations can be found at https://bsldebate.eventbrite.co.uk

We’d like to congratulate Action on Hearing Loss on their event and if last night whet your appetite then be sure to join us at our deaf-led debate, coming soon!
