We’re very excited, and extremely proud, at DeafLondon today as we launch our Manifesto. It sets out who we are as an organisation, what we believe in, the changes we are aiming for and the work we’ll do to make a difference. And if that wasn’t enough, we’ve launched our new-look website too – phew!
Over the last year we’ve been involved in some great projects: lobbying training ahead of BDA’s Deaf Lobby Day; working with Southwark Deaf Forum to compile recommendations for local council services; and our project to make the election more accessible to Deaf people. We’ve used this experience to help define who we want to be moving forward.
We will continue our work to educate deaf people on how to lobby their MPs in an informed way. But we want to do more. We’ve identified policy areas we’re passionate about and will be campaigning to raise these up the agenda. Not least of which is the need for a BSL Act in England, hot off the heels of success in Scotland.
We have strong beliefs and lots of ideas, but we know there is strength in numbers so we’ll work in partnership with others, wherever possible, to make our dreams a reality.
Have we got your interest yet? We hope so! Take a look at our Manifesto to find out more.
