Why/ What’s the need?: Current research has shown that deaf people struggle to find employment. We are shocked that deaf people are 55% more likely to be unhappy at work and 26% reported that they had experienced discrimination or harassment in the workplace (Action on Hearing Loss, ‘Opportunity Blocked’ report). We think that if we successfully train people then they will be more confident to speak up for their rights.
What we are doing: We have successfully trained 35 people at City Hall this year and next year we want to train even more. We will also look at programmes specifically for deaf youth with a view to establishing a deaf youth board.
How you can get involved: If you feel you would like to be part of our youth board then please email us. You can also check our news feeds for details of our next training courses or sign up for our e-newsletter.
